Another week has gone by and it is time for me to tell you how things are going down.

You can find my previous posts here, week1, week2, week3.

What I have done this week:
I have been doing some onpage SEO and tried to alter some of my posts to match my second and third keyword a little better, besides this I have made some more commenting on blogs related to my niche.

My main concern at the moment is the link building, it is really important that you get people to link to your site if you want it to climb in the search engine results pages.

In the middle of the week my keywords rankings were horrible, I had lost several positions and you probably know the feeling, all your work going down the drain. But today I was back on track again and my ranks were better then they ever been. So here is what they look like right now.

Keyword ranks on Google:
keyword #1 153
keyword #2 82
keyword #3 26

Total backlinks: 61 (last week it was 9)

Pages Indexed Within Google: 101
yahoo Pages Indexed Within Yahoo!: 7
live Pages Indexed Within Live Web Search: 1

This is what the Traffic sources look like, referring sites is traffic from forums and blogs where I have made comments, that traffic is still in majority but the search engine traffic is on its way up.

here are some more stats from Google Analytics.

What´s up for next week:
This week I am going to start working on some bigger articles regarding my niche, some of them will be posted on the niche site itself and the some will go to article directories like Squidoo, Ezinearticles, Buzzle and GoArticles.

Be sure to come back soon to check out the progress.

Now three weeks has passed since I first launched my new niche blog, if you haven’t read the first two posts i think that you should go read them first week1, week2.

So what have I done this week:

This week I was supposed to do a lot of marketing on other blogs but I not targeted as many blogs as I would like to, the weather has just been too nice and since I live in a country where it usually is raining you cant afford to miss out on those sunny days,

Although the weather has been wonderful I have done some work, I have been writing at least one post each day and the blog has gotten its first comments which feels very good, it tells you there is at least some interest.

The number of visitors has decreased a little but since my main focus is to rank on my keywords I don’t care to much right now. I know that I will get my traffic once I get the page to the top of the serp (search engine result page).

This is what it looks like right now.

Keyword ranks on Google:
keyword #1 177
keyword #2 87
keyword #3 46

Total backlinks: 9

Pages Indexed Within Google: 91
yahoo Pages Indexed Within Yahoo!: 5
live Pages Indexed Within Live Web Search: 1

This tells me that I have some serious work to do, the number of backlinks are way to low.

As I wrote in the first post I am using Google Analytics to track my visitors, if you use it right it can give you some extremely valuable information. I totally depend on it to tell me if I am doing things right.

If you take a look at the Traffic Sources Overview below you can see that 17,31% are coming from Search Engines, last week that value was 13,79% and we do want that value to grow.

Below you can find a screenshot from Google Analytics with some more information.

I also like to use SEOrush to take a quick view of how things are going, take a look at it.

I stumbled upon a product called Comment Kahuna from John Cow a few days ago and after looking at their promotion video and the price tag that said FREE, I decided to try it out. It´s a tool that is built to find blogs and leave comments on them, this piece of software makes it easy.

I would really recommend you to take a look at the promotion video to decide if it would suit your needs, it´s totally free.

What´s up for next week:
I will continue with commenting on blogs and continue to put new content on my website for Google to sink its teeth into. I also really need to build some more backlinks.

Next week I will write a follow-up and give you some more advice.
Ps. Add me on Twitter or join my RSS to keep up with my latest posts Ds.

Now two weeks has passed since I decided to launch my new nice blog and I have some information to share with you.

So what have I done this week:
This week I have been doing some Guerilla marketing on forums and it have given me some visitor, the worst thing with this is that I feel like a spammer since the only reason that I am participating on their forums is that I want some free traffic.

The visitors I got generally came from two forums so I will focus my efforts on those two forums and try provide some valuable content to them and hopefully get some more visitors and maybe a link.

I have also added my site to Microsoft Live Search, Yahoo Search (Yahoo requires registration) and the Open Directory Project.

I have been updating the blog daily with at least one post and will continue to do this until I get some decent results in the SERP (Search Engine Result Page) , then I might decrease the posting frequency depending on what Google Analytics tells me.

As you can see on the Traffic Source Overview image below there are some traffic coming from the search engines.

Keyword ranks on Google:
keyword #1 186
keyword #2 97
keyword #3 45

On the image below you can see some statistics regarding the visitors.

What´s next:
The following week am I going to find some great blogs that touches my niche and do some serious commenting to draw some attention to my new niche blog.

I am also going to continue to fill my blog with good content, at least one post per day.

Create a list of 5 topics that suits for long blog posts.
If you dont know how to get started with wordpress I would like to recommend a blogger that recently started a series of blog post on how to do just that.

To be sure not to miss out week 3 I recomend you to add me on Twitter or sign up for my RSS feed.

As I have written on my About page, I have a couple of blogs, forums and niche sites already up and running at the time but i allways have my eyes open for new ideas and markets.

A few days ago I started a brand new niche blog and I thought that you might be interested in how i do that, so I decided to share with you the techniques that I use.

About the site:
The site is built on wordpress with a free theme that i have customised a little to be able to add some affiliate banners, I have also added a few posts that contains the keywords that I am going to target.
I have some plans about monetisation but I will not focus on that until I have some decent traffic.
There are two plugins that I use and really would recommend you to use, Google XML Sitemaps and All in One SEO Pack.

When the content is in place and the blog/site is ready to launch, i do the following.

1. create a sitemap.xml using the Google XML Sitemaps plugin
2. add it to Google
3. add tracking code for Google Webmaster tools and add the sitemap.xml
4. add tracking code for Google Analytics
5. create a few backlinks, I usually try to use some of my other sites and Squidoo to get some backlinks to begin with, the more backlinks you have the faster your site will be indexed by Google and your site will show in the search engines.

When this is done you have to wait for Google to index you webpage, in this case it took about three days witch I think is quite fast.

Keyword volume:
At the moment I will not reveal the sitename or my keywords, but i´ll let you know the search volumes for my keywords.

keyword 1 27.100
keyword 2 6600
keyword 3 5400

When a keyword gets within the 250 rank in on Google I will let you know.

The site is in Swedish wich can make the keyword volume look small, but I think that it will be enough. Time will tell if I am right.

The competition:
There are a few competitors, but none of them has a site that is solely about this niche product, so I think that I will have a fairly good chance.
Even if they have high pagerank and are respected sites they are not primarily targeting the keywords that I intend to rank as #1 at google.

Whats next:
From now on I will use the Free Fire Fox Rank Checker plugin from SEOBook.com to keep track of how well I rank on my keyword SEOBook and Google Analytics to keep track of my traffic.

The number one goal right now is to climb in the Google search result pages, I am going to take action and present the actions and results in detail here on the blog.

Thanks for reading
If there is a certain part of the process that you are interested in, please let me know and I will explain more deeply.

Next week I will write a follow-up and give you some marketing advice.

Most people on Twitter are using a photograph of themselves as their Twitter profile image and that is of course a nice thing. It’s nice to know what a person looks like when you are communicating and it gives a certain sense of trust, but since this is a blog about internet marketing I have to ask myself if that’s optimal if you are trying to grow your number of followers.

From a marketing point of view

If you look at the thumbnails of the people a person is following you most commonly find a bunch of faces, and only a few others have chosen to use logos and other images.

What really made me write this post is that a bunch of the people that I am following, are following this other guy who has a black whale tail on a yellow sign as his profile image. That got my attention as soon as I saw it. I clicked it, just to find out that I didn’t find that person too interesting (no offence) at the moment, but as I started to follow more people that black whale tail on the yellow sign seemed to be on almost everyone’s follow list. So, I clicked it a few more times and finally he got me.

Now I am also following the whale tail man, and that would not have been if he had used a photo of himself as his Twitter profile image.

Conclusion

What I am trying to say in a very non-scientific way is that, using an image that separates you from the masses might help you to grow followers. It’s definitely worth some testing.

If you choose to use some image other than your photo as your profile image, you might want to consider creating a custom Twitter background image that contains a picture of yourself, as an example you can check out Mike Filsaime.

If you want to know what that black whale tail on a yellow sign Twitter profile image looks like you can visit Ross Mayfield on Twitter.

Thanks for reading and don’t forget to follow me on Twitter.

I guess that you have heard of Twitter, it has become extremely popular and everyone is tweeting at the moment. Since my blog is about marketing and getting traffic, i will tell you how to use Twitter to grow readers and strengthen you reputation.

What is twitter?

First of all, Twitter is a Social Networking and Microblogging service that allows you to send text messages to other people, like a blog, the main difference between Microblogs and regular blogs is that Microblogging only allows you to use up to 140 characters per post. Enough characters to let your readers know what you are up to.

Twitter is easy communication and you can access thousands of people within seconds.

I suggest you go visit Twitter and sign up for an account.

How can i use Twitter as a marketing tool?

Before i continue i just want to make it clear that we don’t want to become spammers, no one likes a spammer.

You can use Twitter as an alternative to RSS feeds to let people know when you have updated your blog, just add a link referring to your latest blogpost. Since you only are allowed to use a maximum of 140 characters per post it can be difficult to fit a link and a description into a single Twitter post, you might want to use a service like tinyurl.com to shorten your url.

Use Twitter to let your customers get to know you and your company/blog, show them that you are human and not a sales robot, this will build your reputation.

Don’t use Twitter posts to try sell stuff, use Twitter to get more contact with potential customers. More Contact = More Sales

When i chose to follow Mike Filsaime on Twitter i got an Direct Message with some offers to buy his products, if people decide to follow you on Twitter they are probably also likely to buy your products so you might want to try this out, but don’t try to sell it to people within a regular Twitter post. I dont know if i like this method or not, but you decide if you want to use it.

Don’t forget to monitor your website traffic, you do want to know what impact Twitter has on your page visits.

Putting a Twitter link on your blog

Don’t forget to put a Twitter link on your blog or website to tell all your readers/customers that you are on twitter so that they can join you.

Add ME on Twitter and I will add YOU back!
(Leave a comment with your Twitter url)

If you have a blog and want more traffic then i would say that you absolutely want to join Digg, Delicious, and Stumble Upon. I doesn’t necessary mean that you will get loads of traffic, but it is an easy way to get your message out. Every time you write a new post be sure to send it to the social networks, it only takes a few minutes.

There is one thing that you should have in mind when you write the topic, if you want to attract people from the social networks you need get their attention and make them click, normally you write topics with the search engines in mind, think of this example.

Lets say you are writing about cars and have found news regarding a new BMW 325 model, if you are writing a topic for search engines it would probably look something like this “BMW 325 2009 - New model” but if you are writing to attract people on social networks it should probably do better if it looked like this “BMW has done it again, read all about the new models”.

And don’t forget to use some kind of traffic analyser to monitor the different results, it you don’t have one set-up yet i would recommend you to do that immediately.

Now go ahed and register with Digg, Delicious and Stumbleupon.
